SusieMarie to open 12th annual lemonade stand this weekend

The stand will be at the corner of First and C streets in Cosmopolis from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

In 2007, when she was 4 years old, SusieMarie ran a lemonade stand for a few hours and donated the $13 she made to the Cosmopolis Volunteer Fire Department.

With help from her grandmother, Ann Peery, she has run the stand every year since, expanding it to a full weekend and collecting contributions from around the world with a boost from social media.

“Last year she had firemen from New York who worked during the destruction of the 9/11 Twin Towers,” said Peery. “They heard about her stand down in Ashland, Oregon, and made the trip to Cosmopolis to hand her a $100 bill. It was very emotional for them, and us as well.”

SusieMarie’s 12th annual lemonade stand will operate at the corner of First and C streets in Cosmopolis from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Cups of her fresh strawberry lemonade (with special seasonings and whipped cream) are free, with donations of any size requested for the fire department.

Peery said the stand raised more than $4,100 last year, for an 11-year total surpassing $20,000.

Donations also may be mailed directly to the fire department at P.O. Box 701, Cosmopolis, WA 98537.
