Here at Central Elementary, we have been focusing on the art of poetry recently. We have studied many authors from Robert Frost and Emily Dickinson, and more modern poets such as Simon Ortiz and Marie Howe.
Poetry is a way for us to open our hearts to our past, and our minds to what can be. It gives us an outlet to express ourselves, and that is exactly what our students here at Central have been doing.
Now, I invite you to take a glimpse at the raw emotion and talent of our young writers. These three poems were picked by judges in our school.

The Beach
The beach the feel of sand on your feet it is so smooth on my feet.
The sun shining down on me so warm. Waves coming toward me.
The sand in my toes it feels so crunchy but smooth at the same time.
Walking towards the water to go for a little swim the water so warm.
The water feels so nice so warm not cold it is almost like a crime.
Look at the sea shells so smooth but bumpy too and so so white.

Singing to the Kids at Night
The sound of the birds voice calming,
drifting off into a deep sleep, the voice
getting fafther and farther away, open
eyes to total silence. But! The voice comes back.

The Feel of Life
The sun shines on your skin
it feels nice but
the birds chirp and the flowers grow
and the children play
the grass is green and the sky is blue.
The feel of life is gentle but rough
and there is a long road ahead and the journey is even longer
but
for the sky is blue and
the grass is green
the darkness will come
but the light will always return
to and the sky
the flowers
the grass
the animals.
And for you the journey of life has just began
and for many it is but the best part
of it where you are at
the sun will shine on you for many times more
and see the sky hundreds more times
the feel of life.
