Jan. 1, 1969 is a big day for Mr. and Mrs. Craig Tingley, and for St. Joseph Hospital — the first Harbor baby of the new year was born there at 2:17 a.m. today.

The new Harborite is Preston Walter Vinson Tingley.

The baby’s father is a management trainee for the Kress Department Store in Aberdeen.

The New Year’s Day birth had the hospital buzzing with excitement; no one could recall the last time St. Joseph was the scene of a New Year birth. Last year’s first Harbor baby was born at Mark E. Reed Hospital in McCleary.

“We’re going to give them a complete write-off on their bill,” said Sister Jerome Mary, the delighted hospital administrator. “Both the mother and the baby.”
