• A gang of scrappy Aberdeen Bobcats, short on experience by long on the will-to-win, handed the Hoquiam Grizzlies a 44-32 lacing last night for their fourth consecutive northern division, Southwest Washington conference, basketball victory. The game was played before a capacity crowd of 1,500 at the Miller gym.

Led by a whirling dervish, who answers to the cognomen of Hank Sliva, the Cats landed on their rivals, a-clawin’ and a-snarlin’ and never stopped hawking the ball until the final whistle. Sliva racked up three field goals and four free throws for 10 points and the honors.

• Hoquiam councilmen last night dipped into the project’s not yet authorized fund and pulled out approximately $2,000 to help insure the success of the Hoquiam Logger’s Playday show for many years to come. E.J. Hermann, playday committee chairman, who appeared at council to request the city’s help, proposed that if the city would furnish engineering, gravel and drain pipe to improve the drainage at Olympic Stadium, his committee would provide the labor needed for the job.

The last two playday shows were staged before overflow crowds at Emerson Field. Use of the Olympic Stadium will give the loggers’ committee room needed to handle the crowds.

• Aberdeen extensive downtown fire safety inspections got underway Monday afternoon with a team composed of Capt.
