Aberdeen’s state guard company will stage its first outdoor maneuver Sunday at Schafer’s park on the Satsop, Captain George Magee announced today.

The war game will be conducted in connection with a picnic for guardsmen and their families. Magee said the men will work out an offensive maneuver through the woods and along streams in the park vicinity “exactly as we would be doing if we were really (fighting the enemy).”

The soldiers will be in full uniform with shotguns and the company’s six new sub-machine guns.

Sunday’s picnic and maneuvers will be followed by a softball game.

• The folks over at Bowerman Field in Hoquiam are hoping to keep summer alive and the rainy season at bay so aircraft arriving for Saturday’s Aviation Day won’t have any problem landing.

There won’t be an airshow this year, but plenty of home-built, classic, antique, experimental and model planes will touch down for public display.

• The Union Gospel Mission and a number of area churches and Christian groups are planning a “Block Bash” at north Second and E streets in Aberdeen from 1 to 4 Saturday. The event, an outreach to community members, will feature free chili and hot dogs along with music by The Church band and The Posse.
