• Some 85 Aberdeen, Hoquiam and Olympia high school boys have been “cleaning up” in the spruce slashings of the Olympic national forest near Quinault during the past week.

They have “cleaned” and burned slashing on some 150 acres of Uncle Sam’s forest land, have “cleaned up” in a monetary way, to the tune of $5 a day and have won the admiration of Ranger Fulton by the manner in which they “cleaned up” at meals. Their appetites, he said, were a constant threat to the commissary department. As an example, the boys stowed away eight big turkeys for supper last night.

• A “bigger and better” cranberry cannery will be constructed this year at Markham by Cranberry Canners Inc., to replace the big plant destroyed Monday morning in a $300,000 blaze, W.S. Jacobson, plant manager, announced today.

All the loss of canned cranberry sauce was covered by insurance, Mr. Jacobson said, and a portion of the building loss. No clues as to the origin of the fire have been discovered as yet.
