Grayland Players present ‘Bye Bye Birdie’

The production, directed by Lisa Newhouse, encompasses talent from all over Grays Harbor.

The Grayland Players’ production of “Bye Bye Birdie” opens Friday at 8 p.m. at the Grayland Community Hall.

In this classic play set in the 1960s, rock star Conrad Birdie is drafted into the Army and the town of Sweet Water, Ohio, is turned upside down.

This production, directed by Grayland Players veteran Lisa Newhouse, encompasses talent from all over Grays Harbor, including Bryan Blackburn as Conrad Birdie, Jerrod Phelps as Albert and Natalie Hines as Kim, the teenage girl awarded the kiss from Birdie before he goes into the Army.

Other cast members who add to the fullness of the show are Peggy Coverdale as Mae Pederson as the protective Momma; Carolyn Barker as the mayor’s wife; and Jim White in numerous cameo spots.

Marji Thomas, the production’s costumer, takes the stage to play that same role on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”

Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for children ages 5 to 15. They are available from City Center Drug or Twin Harbor Drug, or at the door.

The production will run May 12-14 and 19-21 at the historic Grayland Community Hall, 2071 Cranberry Road.

Curtain is at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. on Sundays.
