Each month, as part of the curriculum at Central Elementary School in Hoquiam, a different character trait is shared and modeled for students by teachers and staff, with opportunities to practice and model that trait as a class and individually.

The character trait for September was respect. During an awards assembly, 18 students were recognized as Students of the Month for their ability to show respect to classmates, teachers and staff. They received certificates and gift cards to McDonald’s for their efforts, along with praise from their principal.
