Bluegrass band to play Sunday in Raymond

North Country, a Seattle-based bluegrass band, will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at the historic Raymond Theatre.

Founded in 2012, North Country creates a unique chemistry and demonstrates a love for music, songwriting and instrumental dynamics. Its members have toured throughout the United States and Canada. They are Norm Olsen on lead vocals and guitar, Zach Top on lead vocals and mandolin, Michael Kilby on fiddle, dobro and harmony vocals, Kent Powell on bass and harmony vocals, and Will McSeveney on banjo.

Olsen, a South Bend native, will be playing before his hometown audience. He acquired his first guitar at the age of 13, and shortly thereafter he knew he wanted to pursue music for the rest of his life. He became a local oyster farmer by trade and joined North Country after a jam session in early 2012.

North Country’s first album, “Won’t Be Over You,” was named a top 10 bluegrass album in 2014 by KCBS radio. In October 2015, the band was selected to showcase at the International Bluegrass Music Association in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Tickets for the Sunday Afternoon Live show are $15 at the door, or may be purchased in advance for $12 at the theater box office at 323 Third St., or at the Raymond or South Bend pharmacy. Tickets are also available through www.sundayafternoonlive.org, or by calling 360-836-4419.
