Bishop Center’s documentary film series begins this week

The first film, “Minimalism,” will be shown Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

A four-film documentary series is a new feature of the 2016-2017 season at Grays Harbor College’s Bishop Center. The Pub Series takes place on four Thursday evenings throughout the year, beginning this week.

The first film, “Minimalism,” will be shown Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and is sponsored by Alder Creative.

“We are very excited to be offering the new Pub Series at the Bishop Center,” said Jason Hoseney, GHC vice president for student services and manager of the Bishop Center. “The films are provocative and timely; we are anticipating some lively discussions after each film.

“Documentary films just seem to go with the college venue, and I am so glad we could add them to the Bishop season,” Hoseney added.

Each film will be screened backstage at the Bishop Center; seating will be arranged pub-style and movies will be viewed on an enormous screen. The tickets are $10 per film, which includes popcorn and a slice of pizza; beverages will be available for purchase. A discussion among the film-watchers will follow each movie.

“Minimalism,” described as a documentary about the important things, examines the lives of minimalists from all walks of life.

Other films in the Bishop Center series are:

• “Cowspiracy,” Thursday, January 12, 6:30 p.m., which investigates the sustainability secret.

• “Man on Wire,” Thursday, March 23, 6:30 p.m., detailing Phillippe Pentt’s challenges in achieving his artistic crime.

• “Four Horsemen” Thursday, May 18, 6:30 p.m., which reveals fundamental flaws in the economic system. “Four Horsemen” is sponsored by the Grays Harbor Institute.

Tickets for the Pub Series may be purchased individually at www.ghc.edu/bishop or by calling (360) 538-4066.
