Let the oil trains roll

We depend on oil

Thank you Tom Greisamer, for your Dec. 7, letter to the editor: “There’s a cost for passing on oil opportunity.” You are exactly right! I don’t know what the percentage would be, of truck wrecks versus train wrecks, but my guess would be substantially more truck wrecks.

Now we have a gas station on the banks of the Wishkah River, owned and operated by the Quinault Indian Nation. How did they ever get permits for it? If they ever have a leak or a spill, it would be a disaster. And, we have a commercial fishing boat aground at Wreck Creek. If that 3,000 gallons of fuel goes onto the beach, it would be a disaster. Eight thousand pounds of crab would feed a lot of seagulls, but they’re the only ones who would be happy!

If no fuel were being shipped, to any port, I guess the ocean-going canoes would have to go back in the water!

Then consider all of the petroleum-based products we use on a daily basis — all plastics, Styrofoam, etc. I could go on for an hour! Suffice it to say, we depend on oil — a lot!

Let the trains roll!
