There will be a free workshop for people who are interested in learning how to plan for retirement, and for life events, including sudden illness and death.

St. Andrews Episcopal Church will host a free “Life Planning Workshop,” from 10 a.m. to noon, on Saturday inside the church’s parish hall — 400 East First St., in Aberdeen. The workshop will include an information session from attorney Ray Wasson. Wasson will discuss the “legal aspects of life planning,” according to a news release from St. Andrews Episcopal Church.

The legal aspects of life planning that Wasson will discuss include wills, and legal issues associated with health care, according to the release.

Betty Paulsen and Joliet Osborne, certified financial planners from Variable Annuity Life Insurance Company (VALIC,) will “address financial planning issues through a session titled “Planning for Financial Security.” VALIC specializes in retirement plans and investments.

The workshop is designed to help participants prepare for life events such as sudden illness or death of a family member through financial planning, obtaining key information, gathering and storing important documentation and preparing information for family members in the event of an unexpected “change in life,” status, the release states.

The workshop on Saturday will help participants identify what documents and information will be needed, how to gather and store it and how to make it available to appropriate family and friends, the release states.

“At such times, family members or friends are often faced with the need for certain information,” the release states. “It can be extremely helpful and stress-relieving to have access to insurance papers; marriage and birth certificates; bank account locations and numbers; investment portfolios and similar information.”
