AHS student places in 6th Congressional District art competition

Aberdeen High School student Josh Farrar placed among the top three in the 2019 Congressional Art Competition for Washington’s 6th Congressional District, Rep. Derek Kilmer, D-Gig Harbor, announced last week.

The annual nationwide art competition allows high school students to showcase their artistic ability with the chance of having their work displayed in the nation’s Capitol.

Genevieve Grace and Nicholas Shine of the Tacoma School of the Arts rounded out the top three.

“We have incredibly talented young artists across the region, and I want to congratulate Josh for submitting a remarkable piece of art,” said Kilmer. “The Congressional Art Competition provides students with an opportunity to show off their work and earn a chance to win a trip to Washington, D.C. The artwork submitted this year was really impressive, and I want to thank everyone who participated.”

Judges for the event included ArtsWA Project Manager Heide Fernandez-Llamazares, Tacoma Arts Commissioner Davis Freeman, and Spaceworks Artscapes coordinator Gabriel Brown.
