Nordic kin? Oral history program wants your story

Would you be willing to share your memories of the “old country”?

Did you or your parents come to the United States from one of the Nordic countries? Would you be willing to share your memories of the “old country”?

“The Nordic American Voices Oral History Program is a multi-year effort to collect and share the life histories of Nordic immigrants and their descendants in the Pacific Northwest,” says a press release from the Nordic Museum in Ballard.

“The scope of Nordic American Voices reaches beyond Greater Seattle and King County to capture the life stories of individuals throughout the region, including the farming communities … as well as Scandinavian settlements in coastal and Eastern Washington. Over 650 interviews have been recorded by volunteers since the launch of the program in 2009.

“A special focus of the project has been individuals with memories of World War II” in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.”

Interviews are being held Saturday at the Sons of Norway Hall in Aberdeen.
