Head-on collision on state Route 109 ends in airlift

Two residents from Pacific County were injured in a crash on state Route 109 just west of Hoquiam on July 16 at approximately 4:13 p.m. One of the injured was transported by Airlift Northwest in serious condition to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.
According to the Washington State Patrol, a 2003 Honda Accord being driven by David L. Wright, 27 of Prosser, with one passenger, Kariysa G. Castillo, 23 of Kennewick, was traveling southbound on SR 109 when it crossed the center line.
The vehicle struck a 2025 Chevrolet Trax head-on that was driven by Jonathan D. Parker, 40 of Long Beach with one passenger, Angilee M. Cogdill, 50 of Raymond. Wright’s vehicle came to a rest in the northbound lane and Parker’s vehicle came to a rest in the northbound ditch.
Cogdill, who is the only individual noted as not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, was the individual airlifted. Wright, Castillo and Parker were all also injured and were transported to Grays Harbor Regional Health in Aberdeen.
According to WSP, the preliminary cause of the collision is “speed too fast for conditions.” Drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the collision. No charges are pending.
The conditions of the four individuals are unknown.
At the time of the collision, thunderstorms were moving through the area.
