The details have emerged regarding a fight in Raymond that reportedly resulted in a man’s death and another to be charged with manslaughter.
The fight occurred on Feb. 1 at approximately 7:26 p.m. at a residence on the 600 Block of McKinley Ave.
Officers were initially dispatched to a 911 call at the address for the report of a trespassing, and another call was initiated at the Raymond Fire Department after a man showed up in a vehicle “unconscious, and unresponsive.”
According to a resident who lives near the fire department, they saw a man down on the concrete floor of a bay at the fire department. The man was hooked up to an automated CPR machine and was actively receiving CPR.
Emergency responders transported the man — Brett Cadwell — to the Willapa Harbor Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The incident reportedly began after two females picked up Cadwell and one decided to take a “Pikachu hat” to another male who lived at the residence.
Cadwell and another individual at the residence – identified as Bo M. Bojorcas, 33 – reportedly had beef and did not get along. The issue was reportedly over the gifting of a car and an allegation that Bojorcas “smashed out” the windows of Cadwell’s truck.
“When they got to the [residence], [one of the females] was expecting [the other male] to come out but it was Bo that came outside,” Officer Rikki Changala said in court documents. “She said that Bo walked over to her window and asked who was in the car with her. Bo looked over at the passenger seat where Brett was sitting.”
“Brett asked Bo, ‘How much money do you have in your pocket.’ Where Bo responded, ‘How much money do you have in your pocket, ya pussy.’ Brett got out of the car and Bo went around the car closer to Brett. [She] stated that the headlights were off so she couldn’t see the first half of the fight but when she turned the lights on, she saw Bo put Brett into a choke hold for a couple seconds, then someone came out of the residence and yelled to get off the property…”
“That was when the fight broke up and Brett got into the car on his own. Brett told them he couldn’t breathe. [She] said she pulled out of the driveway and when she got to the stop sign before going up the hill, toward Fowler St. she looked over at Brett and noticed his eyes were open and his chest wasn’t moving with his breathes. [She] stated she started slapping Brett in the chest to wake him up and [the other female] checked his neck for a pulse but didn’t feel one. [She] said she could not find her phone to call 911, so she drove straight to the fire station,” Changala added.
A doctor at the hospital believed Cadwell died from cardiac arrest, according to police. Changala also notes that Cadwell had “a shade of purple from the top of his shoulders to the top of his head” and that the doctor noted when he “arrived his neck was slightly red.”
According to court documents, Bojorcas told the investigators that he was outside the residence smoking a cigarette when the vehicle pulled into the driveway. He reportedly thought it was one of his friends and also heard what he believed was one of the occupants telling another to stay inside the vehicle.
“Bo said that a male got [out] of the car and started closing the distance with him while he was trying to create distance and deescalate the situation,” Changala said in court documents. “Bo thought he saw the male take something out of his pocket but didn’t see what and then possibly put it back in his pocket.”
“Bo said that the male punched him 2 or 3 times, Bo then grabbed ahold of the male’s sweatshirt and pulled it over his head and tried to twist him up in it, but the male slid out of the sweatshirt then came back at him and put him in a choke hold. Bo asked the guy to let him go because he was scared for his life. The male would not release him. Bo started punching him in the side above his rib area, is where he believed he was hitting him.”
“The male finally let [go], Bo started crawling toward the house and the male started kicking him. That was when [another resident] came outside and yelled. The male then ran back to the car and got in, then the car drove off,” Changala added.
A minor at the residence reportedly walked outside and found Bojorcas being attacked, and ran back inside to get an adult. The adult then went outside and yelled to stop the fight, and for the women and Cadwell to leave.
Bojorcas was booked into the Pacific County Jail Services for second-degree manslaughter.
