Aberdeen Explorers win awards

The Aberdeen Explorers unit brought home numerous awards from the Oregon Law Enforcement Challenge earlier this month at Camp Rilea in Warrenton, Oregon.
The Explorers youth program is part of the Learning for Life subsidiary of Boy Scouts of America. Members ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade learn skills in law enforcement, emergency services and several other fields with the support of professional advisers.
About 18o Explorers representing 17 units competed, including two units from Washington state: Aberdeen and Snoqualmie/North Bend.
During the competition, situations were role-played by off-duty officers and Explorer unit advisers. Police officers judge the Explorers on their performance.
“They were graded on tactics, knowledge of law, how they conduct themselves, safety, procedure and other elements,” said Aberdeen Police Officer Gary Sexton, a unit adviser.
The unit brought home four team awards:
• First Place, Domestic Violence: Brendan King and Nadia Wirta
• Third Place, Domestic Violence: Tagg Meneeley and Joselyn Quintana
• Third Place, Four-Person High-Risk Traffic Stop: Brendan King, Nadia Wirta, Brice Howard and Joselyn Quintana
• Third Place, Marksman Shooting Team: Brendan King, Christian Reyes, Brice Howard and Tagg Meneely
