Car fire Tuesday damages vacant First Street residence

Vehicle a total loss, damage to house confined to attic and exterior

A vehicle fire on the 900 block of West First Street in Aberdeen early Wednesday morning spread to a residence, leaving a totaled car and $2,500 in damage to the house.

According to Aberdeen Fire Department Battalion Chief Troy Palmer, firefighters were called to the scene just before 2:30 a.m. and arrived to find a car engulfed in flames. The fire had already made its way to the vacant, single story residence’s exterior and attic.

A crew of eight Aberdeen firefighters extinguished the blaze on the vehicle fire and the exterior of the residence before gaining access to the attic fire. Palmer said the fire was under control in about 15 minutes. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters, and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
