The Elma Eagles played unselfish basketball in an 81-39 thrashing over the Forks Spartans on Saturday in Elma.
The Eagles (4-1) opened the game with a big first quarter, scoring 28 points in the frame to take a 16-point lead paced by nine points by guard Cason Seaberg.
Leading 46-29 at the half, Elma put the game away by outscoring Forks 20-2 in the third quarter, with seven different Eagles scoring in the period.
Seaberg led Elma with 18 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Sophomore Traden Carter (17 points, 5 rebounds), junior Carter Studer (13 pts., 6 reb.) and junior AJ Holmes (12 pts.) also scored in double digits for Elma.
The Eagles shot 34-for-66 (52%) from the field and committed just 11 turnovers in the game.
“Extremely proud of our team. They came ready to play today,” Elma head coach Matt Ferrier said. “Our balanced scoring shows the whole picture. That’s the most unselfish basketball I have seen from an Elma team in a very long time. … I can’t be more proud that we made the correct reads, made the correct passes and trusted the next teammate to finish the play.”
Defensively, Elma had 37 rebounds as a team to go along with nine steals and two blocked shots.
“We hounded them on defense most of the game and our transition game was spot on,” said Ferrier, who commended the play of junior Grant Vessey, who had five points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal in the game. “He was the player who sacrificed his personal stats for the team. He was amazing in delivering the ball to his teammates.”
Elma will host Aberdeen at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Ocosta 50, Pe Ell 33
Using a solid defensive game, Ocosta picked up its first win of the season with a 50-33 victory over Pe Ell on Friday at Pe Ell High School.
The Wildcats (1-3) held the Trojans (1-3) to 10 points in the first half and forced 26 turnovers in the game.
“We’ve worked extremely hard on shoring up our defense since our game against Raymond and it really paid off tonight,” Ocosta head coach Jason Quinby said. “We did an awesome job in the half court of keeping the ball and our man in front of us all night long. Our pressure defense was also effective.”
Josh Figueroa led Ocosta with 12 points, seven steals and six assists in what Quinby dubbed “an outstanding all-around game.”
Xander Prigmore (13 pts., 5 stl.) and Mark Lewis (13 pts.) also scored in double digits for a Wildcats team that had eight different players register an assist in the game.
“That shows how well we moved the ball unselfishly,” Quinby said. “We were a little sloppy on offense at times, but overall, I was extremely happy with our effort tonight.”
Ocosta plays at North Beach at 7 p.m. Monday.
Raymond 70, Northwest Christian 41
Raymond caught fire in the second half en route to a 70-41 victory over Northwest Christian on Saturday in Lacey.
Raymond (3-2) struggled to hit shots in the first half, amassing just 25 points over the first 16 minutes of play.
But with the play of Skyler Hutson — who scored 15 of his 18 points in the first half — the Seagulls were able to hold on to a slim 25-24 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Raymond erupted for 45 points as senior leading-scorer Morgan Anderson heated up.
Anderson scored 21 of his game-high 32 points in the third quarter as the Eagles took a 47-37 lead into the fourth period.
In the final quarter, the rest of the Seagulls chipped in, scoring 23 points from seven different players while holding the Wolverines (1-2) to just four points over the final eight minutes of the game.
“It was definitely a tale of two halves. We couldn’t buy a bucket in the first half other than Skyler Hutson and we had too many defensive breakdowns,” Raymond head coach Mike Tully said. “In the second half, we were able to get some stops and run the floor. Morgan Anderson took over the game in the third quarter and the rest of the team fed off of his energy.”
Anderson added nine steals and four assists to his stat line while Hutson led the Seagulls in rebounding with six.
Chris Quintana added six steals for a Raymond team that collected 26 steals in the game, with nine different players recording a steal in the contest.
Raymond plays at Chief Leschi at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
