Inside: Grays Harbor BJJ medalists; Aro Glass Clubbers softball results

Local Brazilian jiu-jitsu athletes earn medals

Ed Eliason and Donnie Worthey, representing Grays Habor Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, earned medals at the Proving Grounds Tournament at Green River Community College on Feb. 2.

Eliason placed first in the Men’s Medium Heavy (186.6-195 pounds) class, winning tow matches via submission over Rough House Jiu-Jitsu’s Garry Bolen.

Worthey, a featherweight (141.5-154.5), defeated Olli Tigloa Brazlilian Jiu-Jitsu’s Anthony Rathburn via arm bar submission in his first match of the event. Worthey lost his second match to Arjun Sikureta, of Framework BJJ, before earning a draw against Issac Usman (no team affiliation) in his third match of the competition. Worthey earned a third-place medal for his efforts.

Grays Harbor BJJ will be sending approximately 12 adults and five children to compete at The Revolution Tournament on March 2-3 at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma.

Aro Glass Clubbers

The Aro Glass Clubbers men’s softball team tied for 3rd in the rain-shortened Tournament of Champions in Lakeland , Fla. on Feb. 8-10.

The Clubbers, who earned the No. 1 seed, went 5-1 for the tournament.

Leading the Clubbers were John Delia (.684 batting average), Wayne Ross (.632), Mike Hatley (.688) and Bob Paylor (.643).

After two days of mid-70’s weather, the tournament was rained out on the final day of competition.

The Clubbers will be competing in their 51st season in 2019 and thanks their sponsor, Aro Glass.
