Prep Roundup: Host of Twin Harbors runners compete at Three Course Challenge

Hoquiam senior Jane Roloff led a contingent of Twin Harbors cross country athletes at the Three Course Challenge on Saturday, a race featuring a large field of competitors from across the west coast.

Locals compete at Three Course Challenge

Led by a top finish from Hoquiam senior Jane Roloff, several Twin Harbors cross country athletes competed at the Seaside High School Three Course Challenge on Saturday at the Camp Rilea Armed Forces Training Center in Warrenton, Oregon.

Facing competitors from across the west coast in a large field, several local prep runners competed in the 5,000 meter Difficult Course races on Saturday.

Hoquiam senior Jane Roloff won the girls race with a time of 21:39.6. The Grizzlies standout was the only runner in the field of 144 competitors to break 22 minutes.

Ocosta junior Rebekah Stone had a decent showing, placing 37th overall with a time of 25:08.0.

Elma junior Georgia Burkhart crossed the finish line with a time of 26:35.8 to place 63rd.

Also competing in the girls race was Elma sophomore Ella Roberts (29:13.2, 74th); Ocosta junior Anahi Sabalso Valdovinos (34:40.3, 126th); Hoquiam sophomore Jalynne Evans (35:04.4, 130th) and senior Ellie Graham (36:46.7, 138th); North Beach junior Addison Baggaley (39:30.7, 146th) and sophomore Elise Barron (39:35.7, 147th).

In the top boys race, Elma freshman Frank Roberts placed 32nd with a time of 20:18.8 as the top local finisher.

Hoquiam senior Konlan Higgins crossed the finish line in 22:31.6 to place 106th in a field of 276 competitors.

Other locals competing in the boys race was Ocosta sophomore Billy Burns (23:34.4, 139th); Elma senior Dustin Van Blaricom (24:58.8, 192nd), sophomore Ashton Brown (26:03.6, 218th) and junior Matthew Pugel (26:31.6, 227th); Ocosta freshman Declan Kachman (26:31.6, 228th) and Koa Johnson (26:49.1, 233rd); North Beach junior Sawyer Reither (27:01.6, 240) and freshman Kenneth Frank (27:40.6, 261st),

PREP VOLLEYBALL

Castle Rock 3, Montesano 2

Montesano came up short in a 3-2 loss to Castle Rock on Friday at Castle Rock High School.

The Bulldogs (1-6 overall) lost 25-20, 17-25, 17-25, 25-22 and 13-15.

“This was a battle. Although we did not come out on top, the girls left it all out on the court,” Montesano head coach Cindy Wecker said. “I am so proud of them for the way they played. Some of our younger players are really starting to step up, they are starting to mesh and play great together.”

Kalia Hatton led Monte with 16 kills and 31 digs.

Kylee Wisdom had 11 kills and seven blocks with Karissa Otterstetter recording 31 digs and dishing out 30 assists to Bulldog hitters.

Montesano hosts Tenino in a 1A Evergreen League matchup at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

GIRLS PREP SOCCER

Auburn Adventist 1, Ocosta 0

Ocosta was off-target in a 1-0 loss to Auburn Adventist on Friday in Auburn.

The Wildcats (3-3) dominated possession and outshot the Falcons 28-5, but only five Ocosta shots were on-target.

The Falcons cashed in with a goal off a low, hard shot in the 59th minute to hand Ocosta its third loss of the season.

“We need to work on our positioning and communication,” Ocosta head coach Mike King said. “I was glad to see the girls were getting shots until the end. Our defense did a great job to limit their shots and keep us in possession.”

Eighth-grade goal keeper Hollys Baldwin made three saves for the Wildcats while teammates Kylee Denny, Amelia Saunders, Joanah Rosander, Kennedy Reynolds and Gabby Ness were commended by King for their defensive play.

Ocosta plays at Winlock at 6 p.m. Monday.
