Ocosta 4, Toutle Lake 0
Ocosta midfielder Katelynn Denny scored a hat trick to lead the Ocosta Wildcats to a 4-0 victory over Toutle Lake on Monday in Westport.
Denny scored three goals and, according to Ocosta head coach Mike King, controlled the game from her center-mid spot. Denny garnered 55 touches while converting on 33 passes for Ocosta, which had no available substitutes for the second consecutive game. Denny was also successful on 5-of-6 of her thrown-in attempts.
Miki Ness also scored for Ocosta (4-5-1 overall, 1-2 Pacific 2B) off an assist from Natalie Carloza.
Ocosta goalkeeper Devyn Martin recorded her fourth shutout of the season. Martin had plenty of help as the Wildcats defense, led by Maia Soderlund and her 61% passing percentage, held the Ducks (1-7-1, 1-2) to just one shot on target in five attempts.
“We weren’t as intense as when we played Toledo. The weather may have been a factor in that,” King said. “Our conditioning is the best it’s been in years, but our trapping and shot selection needs to improve. Our forwards only had seven of our 27 shots.”
The Wildcats play at Winlock at 6 tonight.
BOYS PREP GOLF
Black Hills 220, Aberdeen 282
In a 9-hole match played in a constant rainfall, Aberdeen fell to Black Hills, 220-282, on Monday at Tumwater Valley Golf Course.
Aberdeen was led by Nolan King, who had the Bobcats’ only sub-50 round with a score of 46.
Bobcats head coach Dan Sundstrom commended junior James Boora, who scored a season-best 57 for Aberdeen.
“When it looked like the weather was going to get the best of us, Jimmy Boora battled through the elements and had a career best round,” Sundstrom said. “Not only did he shoot his lowest score of the season, he nearly had a hole-in-one. He was a little over a foot away from the cup on the 130 yard, par-3 8th hole.”
Aberdeen faces WF West at 3:30 today at Newaukum Valley Golf Course.
