Led by Matisons and Hood, Aberdeen places 10th at state championship swim meet

Bobcats finish with 71 points, three podium placements

FEDERAL WAY — The Aberdeen girls swim team earned multiple podium finishes to crack the top 10 in the team standings at the WIAA 2A Girls State Swim & Dive Championships Friday and Saturday at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way.

Aberdeen placed swimmers on the podium in three events and scored a team total of 71 points to finish 10th in the combined team scoring.

Leading the way for the Bobcats was senior Anna Matisons, who placed fourth overall in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.07.

Bobcats sophomore Mija Hood earned a top-eight podium spot with a sixth-place finish in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall with a time of 1:04.39.

Hood also placed 16th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:00.43 as the only Bobcat to compete in two separate finals in individual events.

Hood and Matisons joined senior co-captain Litzy Orona and junior Keara Burns to place fifth in the 200 yard medley with a time of 1:59.17.

Hood, Orona and Burns teamed with sophomore Harnoor Jandu to place 10th in the girls 200 freestyle relay event.

Aberdeen’s 400 freestyle relay team was disqualified for an infraction during the race and did not score any points.

Sammamish won the state title with a score of 305 points.

Anacortes (227) and Enumclaw (183) placed second and third, respectively, in the 42-team meet.
