OYEHUT — Solid defense paved the way to victory for North Beach over Chief Leschi in a Pacific 2B League game at the House of Pain on Tuesday.
Led by 20 points from Reilly Moore and nine each from Lorin Cox and Helen Garman, the Hyaks (6-3, 9-3) held the Warriors to 12 points in the second half.
“As the game progressed, our defense just got better and better,” North Beach coach Larry Moore said. “Once we got ahead, we just kept our composure and played great defense. We just slowly pulled away.”
Garman added 10 rebounds, while Hannah Avery dished out five assists and Mariah Vogler grabbed six rebounds.
Larry Moore cited Caela McGehee for her effort off the bench and Reilly Moore and Hannah Avery for their leadership.
North Beach travels to Taholah on Thursday.

Spartans 42, Grizzlies 40
FORKS — A 19-7 fourth quarter by host Forks allowed it to erase a game-long deficit to Hoquiam en route to an Evergreen 1A League win on Tuesday night.
With seven seconds left, Hoquiam trailed by two and had a chance to hit the winning 3-point shot, but it fell away.
The Grizzlies led 33-23 after three quarters before the Spartans continued their hot shooting from behind the 3-point line. Out of their 11 field goals, the Spartans hit eight 3-pointers. In comparison, the Grizzlies hit no 3-pointers out of their 17 field goals.
“I take my hat off to Forks; they outplayed us and congratulations to them,” HHS head coach Mark Maxfield said. “In a nutshell, I thought Forks wanted it more than we did. they played with a lot of energy and confidence. We played tight and not confident. The momentum turned.”
Karlie Krohn led Hoquiam (0-3, 4-9) with 16 points.
Senior Brandi Parson and junior Kylee Bagwell have been ruled ineligible due to team rule violations.

Chitwhins 55, Elks 26
AMANDA PARK — Taholah jumped out to a 14-1 lead after one quarter and rolled to victory over Lake Quinault on Tuesday.
The Chitwhins (4-0, 6-3) used solid defense to create offense and grab and early lead. Denise Dolan and Kayleah McCrory each scored 11 points for Taholah, while Celisha Raldston added 10 points. Dolan added 12 steals, while Tamika Grover grabbed eight rebounds.
“Our offense fed off our defense with fast breaks,” Taholah coach Karl Braden said. “We’re starting to get close to the team we believe we can be.”
Braden cited Kalisha Underwood for a good all-around game.
Espy Silva and Kariana Cole each scored nine for Lake Quinault.
Taholah hosts North Beach on Thursday, while Lake Quinault travels to Naselle on Friday.

Owls 40, Loggerettes 27
WISHKAH — Kaylee Sowle scored 13 of her 18 points in the second half as Mary M. Knight rallied past Wishkah in a Coastal League game Tuesday at Brian Eager Memorial Gym.
The Loggerettes shut down the Owls in the first half, leading 15-9 at intermission. Sowle, however, converted numerous steals in the second half as Knight rallied.
“We had a great first half,” Wishkah coach Dave Busz reported. “In the second half, Kaylee Sowle kind of took over. She’s an outstanding player.”
Erica Bomhoff led Wishkah (2-2, 5-4) with 15 points. Jesse Thompson had 10 rebounds and Maggie Sorensen seven for the Loggerettes.
Wishkah journeys to Taholah on Friday.

MENLO — Life Christian Academy held host Willapa Valley to single digits in the first half to claim this Pacific 2B League contest at Tenoski Gym on Tuesday.
The Eagles took flight with a 29-7 halftime lead and stayed even with the Vikings for the second half.
“Our kids played hard,” Valley head coach Colby Rogers said. “We need to learn how to battle withy more physicial teams better. This is a good learning experience.”
Hannah Cook led Valley (1-8, 4-9) with eight points and Britney Patrick pulled down seven rebounds.
On Thursday, Valley travels to Tacoma to take on Life Christian.
