Montesano’s Jillie Dalan surpassed a milestone for her prep career in the Bulldogs’ 65-30 victory over Klahowya on Friday in Klahowya.
Monte’s standout junior forward had a double-double with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six steals.
Dalan surpassed 1,000 points for her prep career in the process.
Playing in their second game in as many nights, the Bulldogs (11-5 overall) had the game in hand after eight minutes of play, leading 28-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Senior post Ava Schrader (11 points, 6 rebounds) and sophomore Makena Blancas (10 pts., 7 reb.) also scored in double figures for Monte.
Bulldogs sophomore point guard Tieander Olson scored eight points while grabbing nine rebounds and recording six steals in the victory.
Montesano went 27 for 80 from the field (34%) and held a 40-27 advantage on the boards.
The Bulldogs forced 32 turnovers by the Eagles (3-8) and committed just 10 turnovers in the game, one in the first half.
”Playing back-to-back nights, we came out with a lot of energy and moved the ball well,” Monte head coach Mark Mansfield said. “We were getting great shots and if we missed, we were getting second and third chances. We were jumping out on them, created some turnovers, raced out to a big lead and played solid the whole night with a lot of energy.”
Mansfield said it can be difficult for a team to keep the energy level up on consecutive nights, but the message to the team was they had to play through any potential fatigue.
“We talked about that, there are no excuses,” he said. “We’ve got to come out and get after them at the start and play our game and the girls did a really nice job of that today.”
Montesano resumes 1A Evergreen League play with a game against Tenino at 5 p.m. on Monday in Tenino.
Montesano 28 14 15 8 – 65
Klahowya 2 11 9 8 – 30
Scoring: Montesano – Dalan 24, Schrader 11, Blancas 10, Olson 8, Forster 6, Wintrip 4, Jones 2.

Tumwater 53, Aberdeen 26
Facing Tumwater without its leading scorer proved to be too much for Aberdeen to overcome in a 53-26 loss on Friday at Aberdeen High School.

“We just didn’t shoot well and honestly, our defense was a little big out of whack,” he said. “We gave them too many open looks and they shot the ball well.”
The Thunderbirds (5-9, 3-1) led 26-11 at the half and had the game in hand by the end of the third quarter, leading 45-19.
Tumwater hit 6 of 17 threes (35%) in the game.
