GHC women draw ranked Skagit Valley in NWAC Tournament

The Grays Harbor College women’s basketball team will hit the prime time when it steps onto the court at Everett Arena for the first round of the NWAC Tournament on Saturday.

Finishing fourth in the NWAC West, the Chokers (13-13 overall) will take on NWAC North champion Skagit Valley at 8 p.m. Saturday in the NWAC first round.

The Cardinals (22-8), ranked eighth in the final NWAC Coaches’ Poll, won their final nine games to clinch the North title and are the top defensive team in the NWAC, averaging just 52.8 points per game allowed this season.

GHC, which qualified for the NWAC Tournament for the second straight season, is led by freshman Alexia Thrower, who converted 50 percent of her field-goal attempts and averaged 18.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game this season.

The NWAC Tournament format is single-elimination and will be contested over two weekends in Everett. The full NWAC bracket, as well as ticket information, can be found at www.nwacsports.org.
