The YMCA of Grays Harbor and the Safeway Foundation are partnering address hunger in the community.
Safeway has named the YMCA the recipient of its annual “Hunger Is” campaign to fight childhood hunger. All donations made at the Aberdeen Safeway store will be used to help provide summer breakfasts to kids in need.
“This gift will have a tremendous impact on our program,” said Dan Brown, associate executive director of YMCA of Grays Harbor. “We’d like to thank the Safeway Foundation for selecting us as their charity partner and supporting our efforts to fight hunger. We’d also like to thank Safeway Foundation for its dedication to ensuring that no child has to start their day hungry.”
Many children who receive free and reduced meals at school lose access during the summer. This past summer, the YMCA of Grays Harbor, in partnership with the Aberdeen School District, served more than 4,600 breakfasts to children in our community to help bridge the gap.
Hunger Is — a charitable program of the Safeway Foundation — is designed to build awareness and raise funds in an effort to address childhood hunger in America. Funds raised through the campaign focus on adding breakfasts in and out of school through federal nutrition programs and other means focused on combating childhood hunger and improving other health-related outcomes.
Anyone wishing to support the YMCA of Grays Harbor through this program can simply go to the Aberdeen Safeway and make a donation to the Hunger Is program at checkout through Sept. 30.
