Three new Hoquiam police officers sworn in

Mayor Jasmine Dickhoff swore in three new members of the Hoquiam Police Department at the City Council meeting Monday, said Police Chief Jeff Myers.

Montesano native and former Aberdeen City Jail corrections officer Ryan Spencer was sworn in as a police services officer.

“His prior experience and history in the Harbor allowed him to hit the ground running,” said Myers. “Spencer not only understands our records management computer system, but has already made several suggested improvements to our city jail operations.”

Kevin Swope resigned his position on the Hoquiam City Council to become a police services officer at the Hoquiam City Jail.

“As a resident of Hoquiam and 17-year veteran of the state Department of Corrections assigned to the Stafford Creek Corrections Center as a corrections sergeant, Swope also came with a wealth of experience,” said Myers.

Officer Christian Slater is a lateral transfer police officer from the Mukilteo Police Department. He moved to the area because his fiancée is an Aberdeen Police officer.

“Although a new officer to our department, in the few weeks he has been in training he has been quickly learning the beat and our procedures,” said Myers. “It is likely he will be out on the street solo in no time.”
