Suspect in hit-and-run makes first court showing

He was arrested Monday

A suspect in the case of a fatal crash around the New Year’s holiday made his initial appearance in Grays Harbor Superior Court on Wednesday.

Michael W. Everson, 64, was arrested Monday in connection with the death of a bicyclist who was struck and killed by a motor vehicle outside Ocean Shores during the holidays.

The investigation, initiated by the Washington State Patrol, began when a passerby noticed the body of a Grays Harbor resident along state Route 115 on Jan. 1. State Patrol detectives, with assistance from the Ocean Shores Police Department, investigated the case, before arresting Everson on Monday.

Tuesday’s hearing involved dealing with issues such as factors in deciding Everson’s bail and the possibility of pretrial release and scheduling further hearings for the week. Judge Katherine Svoboda oversaw the hearing.
