The Washington State Patrol is seeking information from the public regarding a vehicle involved in a fatality collision south of Forks on Friday night.
The collision happened about 9:40 p.m. Friday on northbound State Route 101, 26 miles south of Forks, according to a WSP press release. A silver 2013 Chevrolet Cruze with three occupants was driving from Aberdeen toward the Forks area before drifting off the roadway, striking trees and a ditch, the Patrol said.
The rear passenger, a 70-year-old of La Push man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The front right passenger, a 74-year-old woman from Forks, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Forks Community Hospital, according to the release.
The driver, a 54-year-old Forks man, allegedly fled on foot and was later found 100 yards from the scene behind a guardrail.
The driver was transported to Forks Community Hospital for medical clearance. He was then booked into Jefferson County Jail under suspicion of vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and two counts of felony hit-and-run. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
