State Patrol: ‘Dangerously distracted’ driver at center of Clemons Hill wreck

A car carrying four children ran a red light on Clemons Hill on Tuesday evening and collided with another vehicle, sending a total of seven people to the hospital.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a 35-year-old Montesano woman was westbound on State Route 12 and failed to stop at a red light at Clemons Road.

A second vehicle was on North Clemons Road and, when the light turned green, went to make a legal left turn onto eastbound State Route 12. The two vehicles collided in the intersection, sending debris across all lanes of traffic.

The Montesano woman, two Montesano children age 11 and 13, an 11-year-old Hoquiam child and an 8-year-old Aberdeen child were all sent to Harbor Regional Health Community Hospital in Aberdeen with undisclosed injuries.

Also injured were the driver and passenger in the second vehicle, identified as Seabeck residents in their 60s.

The 35-year-old Montesano woman is facing charges of running a red light and “dangerously distracted” driving, according to the State Patrol.

Traffic came to a stop in both directions of the highway when the wreck occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Within a few minutes, one lane of eastbound traffic was opened past the scene, but the westbound lanes and the left eastbound lane remained blocked. The Washington Department of Transportation said the roadway reopened at 7:47 p.m.
