Several school, fire district offices drew no candidates

Special filing period upcoming

Of the 195 elected offices for the August primary in Grays Harbor and Pacific counties, only a handful failed to attract any candidates during the official filing period last week. Among that handful, however, were critical school district and fire district offices.

In Grays Harbor County, fire districts with one or more unfiled for offices include districts 3, 6, 15 and 16. Both counties also have multiple park district positions available, and Grays Harbor County’s cemetery district positions 1-3 remain open.

There will be another shortened filing period in both counties to try to gain interest from candidates for the open positions. According to the Pacific County Auditor’s Office, theirs will be open for three days between May 30 and June 1. As of Monday afternoon the Grays Harbor County Auditor’s office had not set a time frame for filing for vacant offices.
