Pedestrian in critical condition after Hoquiam crash

The collision occurred Thursday evening

A 20-year-old woman is in critical but stable condition after being struck by a car Thursday night, said a Hoquiam police spokesperson.

The crash occurred Thursday night at about 9:47 p.m. near the intersection of Lincoln Street and Emerson Avenue, according to an HPD news release. The vehicle was driven by a 73-year-old Hoquiam man.

“We went back and reviewed some videos. She was on the west side of the street,” said Lt. Brian Dayton in a phone interview. “She was in the northbound lane when she was struck by the vehicle.”

The pedestrian, whose name has not been released, was taken to Bowerman Field and transported to Harborview Medical Center by an aircrew from the Light Flight Network for urgent care.

The driver was not impaired, but the investigation into the collision is ongoing, Dayton said.

“You have all the weird street lighting and shadows that go on in that particular intersection,” Dayton said.

Pedestrians at night should take care to wear bright clothing and cross only at designated crosswalks, Dayton said.
