More snow and cold expected this week

The Twin Harbors and virtually all of Western Washington is in for another snowstorm Friday and Saturday and even colder weather Sunday and Monday, the National Weather Service says.

And this winter storm is likely to be snowier and windier than the one that brought snow last Sunday.

The weather system is expected to move north to south and begin hitting Friday morning.

Snow levels over the two days are expected to be about an inch at Westport, 1 to 2 inches in Aberdeen and a little higher farther east, with up to 4 to six inches expected in Olympia.

But the Weather Service also says this storm is more complex than the last, with local totals harder to predict. In some cases the worst-case scenario is considerably worse than last weekend’s snowfall, particularly in northern Puget Sound.

Friday afternoon through Sunday, strong northeast winds from the Fraser River Valley in Canada could bring up to 60 mph gusts in Whatcom County and north Puget Sound.

Westport could see gusts up to 30 mph, with gusts of 15 mph in Aberdeen and 25 mph at Quinault.

Lows of around 30 are expected in Aberdeen Friday and Saturday, than drop to the mid-20s Sunday and Monday.

After a high of about 41 on Friday, the temperature in Aberdeen isn’t expected to be out of the 30s at least through Monday.
