The man found dead off Broadway Avenue in Hoquiam Monday after 911 dispatchers received a call from a man claiming he had been shot has been identified.

John William Simons, Jr., 52, died of an accidental gunshot wound, according to Grays Harbor County Coroner Robert Kegel.

The 911 call prompted a large scale search by multiple agencies when it came in just after noon Monday. Investigators used GPS data from the caller’s cell phone to narrow the search area before finding Simons deceased on a hillside about 150 yards off the 500 block of Broadway Avenue.
