Elma man transported to hospital after log truck goes into ditch
A log truck driver was transported to Forks Community Hospital after the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve and came to rest in a ditch.
Theodore W. Heidenreich, 69, of Elma was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 101 at milepost 187 about 5:59 a.m. Tuesday when the 1997 log truck he was driving left the roadway to the right, the State Patrol said.
The truck struck the ditch, causing the load to separate and strike the cab, the State Patrol said.
The trailer had reportable damage and the cab was totally destroyed, the State Patrol said. Both were removed by private tow.
Heidenreich was wearing a seat belt. No drugs or alcohol were suspected, the State Patrol said.
The agency cited fatigued driving as the cause.
Applications for e-bike rebates opens
Washingtonians are a crucial step closer to applying for e-bike rebates.
The Washington State Department of Transportation has launched its WE-Bike program website. A link to apply for a rebate is on that website through noon Wednesday, April 23.
The state is offering more than $4 million in instant rebates to reduce the upfront cost of e-bikes and eligible accessories, making active transportation more affordable. The program will provide about 10,000 rebates. Each person may qualify for either $300 or $1,200, depending on their income eligibility.
“Washington residents are very excited about this program,” said Adele Peers, program manager for WE-Bike. “We’re proud to launch an application website available in English and Spanish that helps people prepare to apply and makes the whole process simple.”
Customer service agents are available to assist those who need help applying. Contact details are listed at the bottom of the program website.
The website is more than just an application portal. It also features safety and skills information about using and maintaining e-bikes in an FAQ section.
