Household hazardous materials dropoff spot is moving

Grays Harbor County’s household hazardous waste dropoff program will be moving to the new LeMay facility this summer, but disposal of flammable, corrosive, toxic and reactive household waste will not be available for a couple of months.

The county’s Director of Facilities Mark Cox said the final collection dates at the current facility located near the landfill at 4201 Olympic Highway in Central Park will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on June 2 and June 5. The county hopes to open the new facility in September of 2021.

The current dropoff facility has been in used since 1997.

Cox said that LeMay has been contracted to build a new facility at their new central transfer station along US Highway 12, located at 29 Gavett Lane in Montesano. The county will be reusing materials from the existing facility like roll-up doors, tables, and ventilation equipment, to cut costs.

The County will also rename the Household Hazardous Waste facility to the Moderate Risk Waste Facility. Cox said “this is due to the evolution of waste and how we look at materials found in residential households.”
