Hoquiam teachers contract vote delayed

The Hoquiam School Board voted to delay a vote to approve the tentative contract agreement between the school district and the Hoquiam Teachers Association as small portions of the verbiage of the contract are fine-tuned over the weekend.

The board had been expected to vote on the contract at its Thursday evening meeting, but Superintendent Mike Villarreal said there had been some “back and forth” over some specific language within the contract over the past week and a half and recommended postponing the vote until that language had been finalized to the liking of both sides of the negotiations. The board approved the delay.

Villarreal said the delay in the vote will have no impact on the salary increases due to begin at the end of October. Specific details will be made available by the district if the board does approve the contract during a special meeting Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. in the Hoquiam High School library. The meeting is open to the public.
