GH Covid case count grows by 5

Potential COVID-19 exposure at North Beach Jr./Sr. High School

Grays Harbor Health officials on Thursday afternoon reported five more cases of Covid-19 in the county.

A consistent increase in the daily number of cases started about a week ago, on July 23, and there have been 27 cases reported since then. The total number of cases since February is now 93.

The county attributes one death to Covid-19 and is investigating one more case to determine a cause.

There are 23 “active” cases in the county, local health officials say. They define that this way:

“Grays Harbor Public Health considers a case or contact to be ‘active’ while they are still under isolation or quarantine. Cases with improved symptoms are no longer active 10 days after their first symptoms began (or from their test date if they did not develop symptoms). Contacts who do not develop symptoms are no longer active 14 days after their last exposure to a person confirmed to have a COVID-19 infection.

North Beach High School exposure

School and county health officials have alerted the public to the potential of Covid-19 exposure at North Beach High School during July and warned people who were at the school at certain times that they should quarantine immediately and watch for Covid symptoms.

On Wednesday, Grays Harbor Public Health and the North Beach School District said jointly that there were multiple dates and times that individuals were at various recreational activities within the school and have since tested positive for COVID-19.

The health department said it is in the early stages of an investigation and its information is preliminary.
