Four vehicles damaged, two people injured in Highway 12 wreck at Devonshire

Wreck on Monday, Feb. 4 involving 4 vehicles

Two separate accidents Monday afternoon on Highway 12 at the Devonshire overpass sent two people to the hospital with undisclosed injuries and closed the highway for about an hour, according to a report by Marka Seagrest with the State Patrol.

Just before 3 p.m. Monday a 68-year old Elma woman was driving eastbound on Highway 12 just east of Devonshire and lost control of her 2000 Kia Sportage, hitting the Jersey barrier, coming to rest sideways and blocking one lane. A 42-year old Elma man driving a white Autocar garbage truck witnessed the accident and moved to the other lane before coming to a stop. A third vehicle, a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo driven by a 38-year old Winlock woman, was unable to stop in time. The driver of the Rodeo lost control and struck the garbage truck. That’s when a fourth vehicle, a 2002 Lincoln LS driven by a 73-year old Ocean Shores man, came upon the scene. Also unable to stop, that fourth vehicle struck the Isuzu Rodeo.

The Elma woman was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Her vehicle was totaled. The driver of the garbage truck, which was not damaged, was uninjured. The Isuzu was totaled but the driver was unhurt. The driver from Ocean Shores in the fourth vehicle was injured and also taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital with undisclosed injuries. A passenger from Elma in the garbage truck and an Aberdeen man in the Isuzu were uninjured. All the occupants of all four vehicles were wearing seatbelts, according to the State Patrol report.

Highway 12 westbound was closed for about an hour during the incident. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
