Firefighters battle blaze at vacant Simpson Avenue home

Transients believed living in the house

Aberdeen and Hoquiam firefighters knocked down a fire in a vacant home in the 2200 block of Simpson Avenue early Monday morning.

“The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, and is believed to be a result of transients living in the structure,” said Aberdeen Battalion Chief Dave Golding. No injuries were reported.

The call came in around 12:42 a.m. Monday and arriving units found a vacant, boarded up house with flames coming from a window, said Golding. Responders fought the fire defensively from the exterior before transitioning to an offensive interior attack.

The building was valued at $25,000 a received approximately $10,000 in damages, said Golding.

A total of 15 firefighters from Aberdeen, including the fire chief and assistant fire chief, as well as two Hoquiam firefighters responded in four engines, two ambulances and one command unit. Golding said it took about an hour to bring the fire under control. During this incident the Aberdeen Fire Department, with additional assistance from the Hoquiam Fire Department also responded to three additional medical calls.
