Vacant Aberdeen mobile home destroyed by fire Friday

An early morning mobile home fire in Aberdeen took 18 firefighters an hour to extinguish and left the vacant structure a total loss Friday, according to a report by Aberdeen Fire Capt. Ryan Knodel.

Firefighters from the Aberdeen and Hoquiam fire departments responded to a reported structure fire at 112 E. Crews took a defensive stance due to the heavy amount of fire, and a second alarm was called as the mobile home was fully engulfed in flames.

A total of 14 Aberdeen firefighters, the assistant chief, chief, and two Hoquiam firefighters on one command unit, four engines and three medic units responded. The fire caused an estimated $13,600 damage to the mobile home, which is considered a total loss. The cause is undetermined at this time.

Icy 109 leads to rollover accident

Icy road conditions on State Route 109 Friday morning led to a rollover single-car accident that sent an Aberdeen woman to the hospital. Just before 9 a.m. a black 2002 Chevrolet Tracker driven by Renee Hayter was traveling southbound about two miles east of Ocean City when it hit a patch of ice. The car left the roadway, rolling before coming to a rest on its wheels. According to a report from the State Patrol, defective tires may have also been partially responsible for the wreck. Hayter, 27, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
