Dingler appointed to Washington Marine Advisory Council

Ocean Shores Mayor Crystal Dingler has been named by Gov. Jay Inslee to the Washington Coastal Marine Advisory Council.

The advisory council includes 26 gubernatorial appointments for representatives of marine and coastal interests that include commercial fishing, conservation, shellfish aquaculture, ports, economic development, education, shipping, recreational fishing, science and citizen/public interests.

Dingler previously joined with the governor and other marine interests to oppose offshore oil drilling on Washington’s coast, and she has lobbied for assistance in addressing coastal storm erosion and tsunami preparedness.

The council develops policy recommendations and includes representatives from the following coastal counties: Grays Harbor, Pacific Clallam and Jefferson. Dingler replaces Mark Plackett, who recently moved to Hawaii, as a representative from Ocean Shores.

The next scheduled meeting is from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the Port of Grays Harbor Commission Chambers, 1111 S. Wooding St. in Aberdeen. At the council’s last meeting in June, presentations included one from the state Department of Natural Resources on Damon Point and another from the Washington Geological Survey on preparing for tsunamis.
