Centralia resident finds suspected bomb after buying storage unit’s contents

A citizen found what appeared to be a homemade explosive device among property they had recently purchased.

CENTRALIA — The Washington State Patrol’s Bomb Squad responded to Centralia on Friday night after a citizen found what appeared to be a homemade explosive device among property they had recently purchased.

The device was taken to a local firing range and destroyed in a controlled setting, according to police reports.

At 10:23 p.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Mount Vista Road after a person reported purchasing the contents of an abandoned storage unit in another city, and transporting everything to his home.

During the unloading, the citizen reported finding what appeared to be an explosive device among the recently purchased property.

Police said it “appeared to be a fuse-driven device.”
