Basich Boulevard closed due to slide

An Aberdeen Public Works crew has placed cement barriers on Basich Boulevard to prevent drivers from using the roadway that’s been closed since Dec. 22 due to sunken pavement.

“There is an active slide that has caused a portion of Basich Boulevard to sink,” said City Engineer Kris Koski.

“The city is working with a geotechnical engineer to determine the geometry and mechanisms of the slide and begin designing a repair. In the meantime, the roadway will remain closed,” he said.

“Basich Boulevard is an important connection and reopening it is a high priority,” he added.

The road connects the residential neighborhood of Bel-Aire with the Grays Harbor Community Hospital area. Residents are advised to take alternate routes such as Oak Street to reach the hospital.
