Arrests made after two separate individuals attempt to flee Aberdeen officers

A 36-year-old Aberdeen resident and a 19-year-old Castle Rock resident were in custody Tuesday morning at the Aberdeen City Jail after unrelated motorcycle and vehicular pursuits Monday evening and early Tuesday morning.

“Around 5 p.m. (Monday), an Aberdeen Police officer attempted to stop a motorcycle for an equipment violation in the area of G Street at Heron Street,” said Aberdeen Police Commander Dale Green. “The motorcycle refused to stop and sped up as it drove around the Jack in the Box building and onto Heron Street.”

The motorcycle sped east on Heron Street as the officer activated his lights and sirens. Two blocks later, the motorcycle failed to negotiate the turn onto Hornsby Way and it skidded to a stop.

“The rider started to run and threw an item and surrendered after a brief foot pursuit,” said Green. “The rider was evaluated by the Aberdeen Fire Department at the scene and transported by an officer to the Aberdeen City Jail. The rider was booked on felony charges of attempting to elude a police officer and violation of the controlled substances act as suspected narcotics were located on the item he threw while running.” The rider was also booked for driving with a suspended license.

In the second incident, an Aberdeen Police officer observed a vehicle make no attempt to stop or slow for a flashing red light on H Street at Wishkah Street shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday. The officer activated his lights and the vehicle stopped and the officer contacted the driver.

“While speaking to the driver, the 19-year-old Castle Rock resident put the car in drive and sped off,” said Green. “The vehicle continued south on the Chehalis River bridge at a high rate of speed and turned west onto Perry Street, where the driver jumped out and fled on foot toward a residence.”

Green said the suspect continued to resist at the doorway to the residence. A Taser was deployed and another officer arrived on scene and they were able to detain the driver. It was determined the driver had initially given a false name and had numerous warrants for his arrest. The driver was booked for felony eluding and driving on a suspended license.
