Arrest made in fatal hit-and-run

A 64-year-old man was arrested following an investigation by the Washington State Patrol into a fatal hit-and-run involving a bicyclist around the New Year holiday.

Michael W. Everson, 64, is currently detained at the county jail for hit-and-run with injury or death and vehicular homicide.

Law enforcement have been seeking the driver involved since New Years Day, when the body of Robert D. Westby, 55, was discovered alongside state Route 115 outside of Ocean Shores.

The Ocean Shores Police Department located the vehicle involved in the crash the following day, said Trooper Katherine Weatherwax, a spokesperson for the state patrol. Detectives investigating the case gathered enough evidence and made the arrest on Monday. The arrest was made without incident, Weatherwax said.
