Submissions sought for North Beach online art show

The North Beach Artists Guild is seeking submissions for its new online art show, “Northwest Reflections.” Local artists are encouraged to join this show. The submission deadline is June 16. Details are available at callforentry.org and thegalleryofoceanshores.com.

“We are very excited to sponsor this event,” said Guild President Joan Brewster. “Its an online show, so it is easy to enter and submit your work, but we also plan to have an in-person event to celebrate the winners a bit later this summer.” For that, the winning items will be on display at the Gallery of Ocean Shores. There will be an online catalog that will feature at least one piece by all entrants so everyone will have a chance to see their work published.

Cash prizes and certificates will be awarded to winning artists, with 10 awards planned. The selection will be made by judge and juror Michael D’Alessandro, Exhibits Director for Northwind Arts Center in Port Townsend.

The show is titled: “Northwest Reflections: The people and places of the Northwest as seen through the eyes of artists.”

The sponsors want a show that celebrates the diversity of the region’s special places.“We have such abundance of beauty here,” said Brewster, “and we all see it in different ways. This is a chance to share those perspectives.”

The entry fee for up to three works of art is $35 and images must be submitted through CaFE, an online art management program that makes entering easy and fast, by simply providing photos of artwork. There is no need to mail anything or risk damage to the art. Items selected for an award and the in-person show will be transported, with special arrangements made with each artist. All 2-dimensional media are invited, so items that are flat and hangable are suitable; not sculpture or other 3-D media. It’s not intended to be a photography show, although photographic elements may be included in the artwork submitted.

North Beach Artists Guild hopes to sponsor additional on-line shows in the coming year, including a photography show.

“We learned a lot during the past year by moving many of our classes online in response to COVID”, explained Guild Vice President Jim West. “We were able to reach people who live far away or could not have come to an in-person class and I expect our instructors will continue with a mixture of online and in-person offerings.” The Guild offers classes in a variety of mediums, including watercolor, oil painting, colored pencil and pastel, fused glass, ceramic, and clay sculpture.

The Gallery of Ocean Shores — located at 849 Pt. Brown Av, next to The Homeport — is a component of the non-profit North Beach Artists Guild. It showcases the work of 30 local artists with a wide range of art, including painting, drawing, jewelry, ceramics, blown glass, fused glass, woodworking, sculpture, and basketry. An active clay studio and fused glass studio are located adjacent to the gallery.

“Our mission is to foster community enrichment by engaging people through the arts,” said Brewster. “Our classes, studio space and gallery all help with that. Plus, we offer an Art in Public Places Program, where we provide artwork for offices and restaurants. It’s fun to see original local art pop up in the community. Anyone interested can contact us at the Gallery (360-289-0734) or by email at nbaguild@gmail.com.”
