Connar Sherman is the Rotary Club’s Aberdeen High School Student of the Month for December.

Connar is the son of Henry and Racquel Sherman and Sarah and Josh Mayr. He has participated since seventh grade in the district’s AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) college prep program and has a GPA of 3.95.

He has played football, basketball and baseball at AHS, earning three varsity letters and the 4.0 GPA Award in football, as well as the “Hum-Babe” GPA Award in baseball. He also has volunteered his time with local youth football and baseball programs, as well as Food Ball.

During this period of distance learning, he has been assisting his four younger siblings and several of his classmates with their work via phone and Zoom. He also checks in with teammates to ensure they are keeping up not only with their schoolwork, but also with their physical regimens.

Connar plans to attend the University of Puget Sound, where he will play football and work toward a bachelor’s degree in economics and computer science.

Each year, the Aberdeen Rotary Club honors Aberdeen High School seniors through its Student of the Month recognition and scholarship program. One senior is recognized each month between October and May. In June, two of these eight students are then selected for either the $1,000 “Blue” or $2,000 “Gold” scholarship to the school of their choice.
