PREP BASEBALL

Montesano 8, Cedar Park Christian 0

Montesano handled Cedar Park Christian for an 8-0 win on Friday at Vessey Field in Montesano.

The Bulldogs (3-0 overall) showcased both offense and pitching in the win over the Eagles (3-2).

Monte wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on RBI singles from center fielder Tyson Perry and pitcher Caden Grubb followed by a manufacturing a run in the second on a Perry sacrifice fly.

The Bulldogs blew the game open with four in the fourth, highlighted by an RBI double by shortstop Toren Crites and capped by a sac fly from first baseman Kole Kjesbu.

A solo home run by second baseman Zach Timmons in the sixth put Monte up 8-0.

On the mound, Grubb dazzled Cedar Park Christian, holding the Eagles scoreless without a hit while striking out seven in four innings of work.

Damon Bird (2 IP, 0R, H, BB, K) and Jason Warner (IP, 0R, H, 2K) combined to throw three innings of shutout relief for the Bulldogs.

Crites went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead the Bulldogs offense.

Monte plays at Bellevue Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

Hoquiam 6, Elma 0

Hoquiam got a much-needed win with a 6-0 victory over Elma on Friday at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam.

The Grizzlies (1-5, 1-2 1A Evergreen) earned their first win of the season thanks to a five-run third inning and a stellar pitching performance from senior Joey Bozich to beat the Eagles (2-2, 2-1).

Hoquiam broke the scoreless tie when right fielder Moses DeShazer scored on an Eagles error followed by an RBI single off the bat of third baseman Ty Thao to put the Grizzlies up 2-0.

Three straight walks led to a 4-0 lead with shortstop Aden Hartt scoring on a passed ball with two outs to cap the five-run frame.

The Grizzlies added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Hartt drove in Bozich with an RBI fielder’s choice ground out to make it a 6-0 game.

That was more than enough run support for Bozich, who scattered five hits and three walks while striking out six to earn the complete-game shutout.

Thao and catcher Talan Abbott had two hits apiece to lead Hoquiam.

Bryston Crawford took the loss for Elma, allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits with six walks and four strikeouts in 2 1-3 innings pitched.

Alex Dryden (2 IP, 0R, 2H, 3BB, 2K) and Blake Benzschawel (1.2 IP, R, ER, 3H, 3K) pitched in relief for the Eagles.

Elma right fielder Jackson Bucy had a double in the game, the only extra-base hit for either team.

Elma hosts Montesano in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Hoquiam faces Rochester in a twin bill beginning at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Olympic Stadium.

Ocosta 8, Raymond-South Bend 5

Ocosta broke a tie game in the final inning to beat Raymond-South Bend 8-5 on Friday in South Bend.

The Wildcats (3-2) trailed the Ravens (3-2) 5-4 in the top of the sixth inning before tying the game when left fielder Kevin Lopez came in to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of center fielder Logan White.

Ocosta took the lead with three runs in the top of the seventh, capped by back-to-back RBI singles from Lopez and third baseman Gherig Quinby to go up 8-5.

Wildcats reliever Troy Griffith retired the Ravens on three straight ground outs in the bottom half of the frame to secure the win.

Ocosta had eight players with a base hit in the game, led by Lopez who went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the game.

Griffith picked up the victory, allowing no runs and one hit with three strikeouts in 3 2-3 innings or relief for Ocosta.

Dominick Hason-Miranda started for the Wildcats, allowing five earned runs on five hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts in 3 1-3 innings pitched.

Raymond-South Bend was led by third baseman Edgar Chavez, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.

Lukas Sedy took the loss for RSB, allowing three runs on a hit and two walks in one inning pitched.

Four RSB pitchers combined to allow seven earned runs on 12 hits with eight walks and five strikeouts.

The Wildcats faces Oakville at 4 p.m. on Monday at Grand Army Memorial Park in Westport.

RSB faces Ilwaco in a doubleheader set to start at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in South Bend.

Ilwaco 4, Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 3

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley lost in heartbreaking fashion 4-3 to Ilwaco in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Ilwaco High School.

Tied at 2-2 heading to the seventh inning, the Titans (2-4, 0-2 2B Pacific) took the lead when catcher Eddie Clements came in to score on a Mauricio Morales RBI groundout in the top of the frame.

But the Titans’ jubilation was short-lived as the Fishermen (4-0, 2-0) rallied with two outs and Haddox Hazen at second after a one-out double in the bottom of the seventh.

After Hazen advanced to third, a wild pitch, dropped third strike allowed Hazen to score the tying run, with Corbin Johnson reaching first on the play.

Johnson then stole second and came in to score the game-winning run on a single to center from Chase Cunningham to end the game.

Morales started for the Titans, allowing one earned run on four hits and strikeouts in 2 2-3 innings pitched.

Three Fishermen pitchers combined to allow one earned run on seven singles and one walk with 15 strikeouts, 14 of those by starter Dylan Pelas, who allowed one earned run in six innings of work.

Ilwaco 9, Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 6

Two big innings led to Pe Ell-Willapa Valley’s 9-6 loss to Ilwaco in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday in Ilwaco.

The Titans led 4-0 after a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-run double from infielder Kaeden Blain and a two-run home run from shortstop Max Jarvis in the bottom of the second.

But the lead was erased as the Fishermen scored five runs in the third, taking a 5-4 lead on a two-out, two-run double from Keyton Fisher.

The Fishermen added five more runs in the fourth to take control of the game.

PWV would scratch across runs on a Roman Dominguez single in the fifth and a Kash Ruddell base hit in the sixth but it wasn’t enough as the Titans lost 9-6.

Eddie Clements started for the Titans and allowed five runs on two hits and four walks with a strikeout in 2 1-3 innings pitched.

Three Titans pitchers combined to allow eight earned runs on five hits and seven walks with four strikeouts.

Jarvis led the PWV offense with three hits.

The Titans host Onalaska in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Monday.
